The recently opened Pavilion Tea Rooms and Restaurant in St Annes' Ashton Gardnes held its first Dinner Jazz evening last night and we went along to see how it all went.
If you haven't been yet, it is a really nice building - newly built, tastefully decorated - and it really lends itself to this sort of event.
Cheerful, helpful staff greeted us on arrival and we were shown to our table just in time to hear the band start playing. The Mike Lovell Jazz All Stars are very well known along the Fylde Coast and beyond and they played a very pleasant selection of music from the 1920s 30s and 40s. Now there is "jazz" and there is "jazz" and for this evening it was not the Dixieland "banjo slapping" variety but nice subtle melodies and readily recognisable songs that blended in with the food and general ambiance of the place.
As for the food; well, we have tried the breakfasts (served Sunday mornings only). lunches and afternoon tea but this is the first time that the Pavilion has done an evening meal and I have to say that we were genuinely very impressed.
