Great Evening Of Boxing At Colne Municipal Hall

In his first fight back after a 5 year break from the ring, Blackpool welterweight Jeff Thomas drew with Ric Boulter from Lincoln (see top photo). Speaking afterwards, Jeff said: "Obviously I'm disappointed not to have got the win. My corner said they had me ahead in every round so I just went into the last trying to stay out of trouble. I am buzzing to get back training again and want to fight again asap..."

Darwen's Stevie Taylor - in his first professional fight - beat Zahid Kahut from Batley in a tough cruiserweight encounter cheered on by a great partisan crowd (bottom photo).

Liverpool's Terry Needham - in only his second professional fight beat Kristian Laight from Nuneaton in a light welterweight contest while Luke Blackledge from Accrington - also making his second outing as a pro - beat James Tucker from Doncaster.

At the top of the bill, Trawdens' Shayne "The Pain" Singleton won his 7th fight in a row to maintain his 100% record since turning professional as he beat former area challenger Gavin Deacon from Northampton.

The whole evening was a credit to the sport of boxing with 5 well matched bouts, each of which remained competitive to the last.

About the venue: Colne Municipal Hall is a very versatile venue – we have been to pantomimes, ballet and ballet rehearsal, several shows, including The Real Thing when members of the audience were encouraged to dance in front of the stage, Saturday evening dances and a dinner dance. But we were really impressed with the way that the space was used for this boxing event. The stage was used as an extra seating area, meaning that there were splendid views from all 4 sides of the ring. Added to this were the balcony seating areas on 3 sides ensuring that everybody could get a great view.  The venue is available to hire for other private events. check out their website at: http://www.themuni.co.uk/
