Review: The Barron Knights at the Lowther Pavilion 15.12.2011

I was lucky enough to see the Barron Knights live some years ago in a small cabaret venue just outside Salisbury in Wiltshire.   Peter (Langford) remembered that particular gig when we spoke to him for Best Kept Secrets, which is amazing because the Barron Knights are one of the UK's most popular groups and have toured the world.

Last night they came to the Lowther Pavilion in Lytham and I have to say though I enjoyed their performance the first time and have always liked what they do, this time, in their 50th year of playing, the Barron Knights really raised the roof.  It was an extremely slick, fast-paced show from start to finish and even included some of the songs banned by the BBC because of rather cheeky lyrics, as well as loads of much-loved rock n’ roll numbers.

It would be hard to pick out one performance as all the members of the Barron Knights are highly-skilled musicians but Peter’s tale of Flamenco in Spain and his rendition of “Malaguena”, played with a plectrum on a Spanish Guitar, were truly memorable.  Many thanks to the Barron Knights and their Sound Engineer (and the staff at the Lowther Pavilion) for a wonderful evening.  I do hope we see the Barron Knights back in the North West, not just for us but for the sake of all those who missed the show too.
