Report:
Following last Saturday's exciting victory in their first home game, Fylde Flyers ice hockey team were brought back down to earth with a bump as they lost 15-6 to 2nd place Flintshire Freeze.

It started well enough for the Flyers as they matched their high flying hosts almost shot for shot in the first period, coming out just 4-3 down after 20 minutes. But the Freeze's superior numbers on the bench began to make their mark as the game progressed   and a 6-1 second period saw the game pushed beyond the reach of the battling Fylde Coast side.

Two more Flyers goals came in the final period but Flintshire scored 5 more themselves for a final score of 15-6.

Team manager Mick Caunce said:  "We had to play Elvis in defence due to Player/Coach Mark Gillingham, Matt Gibson, Joe Hall, Chris Wells, Dan Bracegirdle all being out with injuries. Dan Fearon had to work, and Andy Clark is at sea till this week but he should be able to get all the January games in.

"Netminder Steve Gilmartin missed his ferry due to the weather in Northern Ireland and NM Lewis McBride had to work. With what we had to bench we put up a brave fight.

"A few more players are needed to strengthen the squad before the signing/transfer deadline. Anyone interested please contact me on 07595 393277."

Fylde Flyers remain 7th in the English National League 2 North table but have games in hand over all the other teams.  They will be relishing getting their league opponents back to their Sub Zero home rink in Cleveleys in the new year where they hope that small ice pad will make it difficult for visitors to play and instead the Flyers can finally make the most of home advantage.

The next match is at home on Saturday 7th January against Sutton Sting - 5pm face off.
