Join In "Starling Watch" On Blackpool North Pier - 8th & 14th January

The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) has joined forces with Blackpool North Pier and visitBlackpool to present a new exciting and educational experience NORTH PIER STARLING WATCH.

Every day many people will stand on the pier and marvel at one of Blackpool’s most enigmatic free shows. Thousands of starlings gather around the seaward end of the iconic North Pier before creating an air show to rival even the Red Arrows!

The starlings are certainly a sight to behold and now members of the public will get the opportunity to see them up close and personal. There are two events co-hosted by the RSPB, visitBlackpool and Blackpool North Pier which will take place on the pier on Sunday 8 and Saturday 14 January 2012. More events will follow throughout 2012.

Officers from the RSPB will be on North Pier between 12 noon and 4pm on each of these days, presenting talks between 1pm and 3pm on the history of the pier, why the flocks of starlings are nesting in and around the local area, why they perform their spectacular air show each day and other wildlife that can be seen from the pier.

Between 3pm and 4pm there will be trips to see where on the pier the starlings roost and to watch the starling spectacular!

There will be an information stand in the Conservatory area next to the North Pier’s Costa Coffee shop along where people can find out more information about the function of the RSPB along with information about other wildlife hotspots in and around the town including Marton Mere and Stanley Park.
