Ice Hockey: Blackpool Seagulls To Soar Once More

Following on from the successful re-introduction of senior ice hockey to the Fylde Coast with the new Fylde Flyers English League Division 2 North team at the Sub Zero ice rink in Cleveleys, we are very pleased to report that a much loved name is about to re-emerge in the ice hockey world.

After an absence of almost 20 years, the BLACKPOOL SEAGULLS are set to soar once more - in the shape of a new recreational team based around a group of local enthusiasts and players who turned out for the Seagulls in the 1980s.

The most notable of these is Dave Anthony (pictured below) who came to Blackpool as an "imported" player from Canada in 1984 and remains the club's top goal and points scorer for the modern British League era.

Anthony also played for Glasgow, Solihull, Trafford and Guildford. He now coaches the junior players as well as playing recreational hockey.

The original Blackpool Seagulls team first played in the 1930s after the opening of the Ice Drome at Blackpool Pleasure Beach and Seagulls team continued to play throughout the 1950s, 60s,70s and 80s.

The newly revived Blackpool Seagulls first match will be on Saturday 25th February at the Sub Zero ice rink in Cleveleys where they will play the UK Firerfighters team - 5pm face off.

The match will be a charity game to raise funds for Help For Heroes (nominated by the Firefighters team) and Children With Cancer (nominated by the Seagulls).

There are numerous opportunties for people who might wish to sponsor the match: main match sponsor, match puck sponsor, individual player sponsorship etc, as well as advertising options in the souvenir match programme.

For more information on sponsorship, call Peter Bleackley on 07921 298209.
