Review: Clare Teal at the Sands Venue in Blackpool, 21st October

Ooh la la! The Sands have done it again!

Clare Teal and her Band (Simon Little on Bass, Ben Reynolds on drums and dep Rob Taggert on piano) were at The Sands Venue in Blackpool on Friday, 21st October 2011.  Clare, who was at the Savoy Hotel in London on Wednesday, 19th October to receive an award from the British Association of Songwriters, Composers and Authors for her contribution to the British music scene, performed to a packed house.

The very appreciative, enthusiastic audience (which included Elaine and Jenny from Gainsborough) were treated to a wide selection of songs from Clare’s extensive repertoire and her CDs.  Clare, who looked stunning in an elegant black tuxedo with diamante top, slides effortlessly from one style to another and the evening included her versions of songs such as “Try a Little Tenderness”, a very lively rendition of “Tea for Two” a la Anita O’Day and a couple of Portuguese samba songs, finishing with Snow Patrol’s “Chasing Cars” as an encore.

The last song of the night was accompanied by Neil Shatliff who is in Bandleader at the Sands and plays trumpet in the Sands Swing Band on Saturdays.  Wonderful!
