"Carmen" and "The Magic Flute" at Blackpool Grand Theatre - 11th & 12th September

Following last year’s fantastic and innovative performances of La Bohème and The Marriage of Figaro, the critically acclaimed Co-Opera Company return to the Grand with two stunning new shows. Performing Bizet’s Carmen on Sunday 11th September and Mozart’s The Magic Flute on Monday 12th September the productions feature some of the brightest operatic stars of the future.

Bizet’s blistering, passionate opera, Carmen, is a thrilling mix of sex and death which outraged its first audience in 1875, but is now one of the world’s favourite operas. Celebrated director, William Relton brings this riveting production to the Grand Theatre in a show that will delight the senses and stir the passions!

Carmen is every man’s fantasy – the ultimate femme fatale. But she is dangerous. She seduces the mild mannered Don José who gives up everything to be with her. She takes his heart and destroys both it and him when she is seduced by the glamour of the Toreador, Escamillo. Her selfish cruelty ignites a storm of madness which spirals into tragedy.

Mozart’s fantasy quest opera, The Magic Flute, contains some of his most celebrated, demanding and beautiful music including the Queen of the Night’s aria and Sarastro’s aria, Isis and Osiris.

In a mythical land somewhere between sun and moon, the young prince Tamino is rescued from a savage monster by three mysterious ladies. But can they, or their ruler, the Queen of the Night, be trusted? Is Sarastro really as evil as they suggest? And what about the beautiful princess Pamina? Tamino has a lot to learn. He sets out on a journey to rescue his princess and to find enlightenment armed only with some enchanted bells, a man dressed as a bird and a Magic Flute.

Mozart’s mystical fairy tale comes to life in Christopher Newell’s joyous production – a fanciful story of low comedy and high ideals.

Carmen comes to The Grand on Sunday 11th September and The Magic Flute will be performed on Monday 12th September. Tickets start from £16.50.

Take advantage of our special offer and see both fantastic productions for just £38!
