PEACEFUL MARCH ALONG BLACKPOOL SEAFRONT IN MEMORY OF SOPHIE LANCASTER

On Saturday, 6th August 2001 from 12 p.m. there is to be a peaceful march along Blackpool Promenade from North Pier to South Pier, organised by the Sophie Foundation, the charity set up in memory of Sophie Lancaster from Bacup.

Sophie died aged just 20 years old on 24th August 2007 after being attacked in a park in Bacup in Lancashire.

The march is being held during Blackpool's Rebellion Festival and the organisers are inviting everyone to come down and take part in the march, which they hope will raise awareness of the Foundation.

Lindsey Appleton explains:  "We would like everyone to come down and take part in this peaceful march. The march is being organised to raise awareness for The Sophie Foundation.  With it being the Rebellion Festival, we think it's a perfect opportunity for people to join together, get more involved and find out about what the Foundation is about.

We want to make the community aware that discrimination is an issue in today's society."

A Facebook group called Peaceful March Along Blackpool Seafront has been set up for this event.
