AFC Blackpool picked up their first home win of the league season with a hard fought 3-2 win over impressive Stockport Sports.
The visitors - coached by former England international and European Cup winner Peter Withe (photo below) - took the lead in the 15th minute but were shocked by 3 Blackpool goals before the break - from Marc Beattie (23) and Martin Baird (33, 35). After a fairly comfortable second half, the visitors managed to pull goal back with 8 minutes to go and Blackpool then had to dig deep to hold out and secure the three points.
Squires Gate FC were also in NWCFL Premier Division action, losing 3-1 away at Wigan Robin Park.AFC Blackpool are in home league action again on Tuesday evening when they entertain Barnoldswick in a 7.45 kick off.
Squires Gate are at home to Colne the same evening.Next Saturday,AFC Blackpool are away at Runcorn Town in the First Qualifying round of the FA Vase while Squires Gate are at home to Norton United in the NWCFL Premier Division.
