Theatre Review: An Evening Of Dirty Dancing at Blackpool Grand Theatre

Wow - what can I say other than what a brilliant show this is. The Grand Theatre in Blackpool was absolutely packed with a nice mix of locals and holidaymakers and there was such a good feelgood atmosphere even before the show got under way!

Now - I wasn't sure what to expect beforehand, but this is actually a REALLY great idea for a show.

It takes all those memorable and much loved songs from the DD film / stage show and sets them to new dance routines with the two leads and the backing dancers taking it in turns to sing the numbers.

BUT  the clever bit is, - there's no storyline to follow - no who's going off with who to worry about - just lots of great music to sing along to - and, indeed, dance along to as well.  The cast encourage audience participation right from the start and you might even get pulled up on stage to have go yourself!

The costumes were superb and the changeovers between numbers seamless with the whole cast putting on an outstanding performance.

The only observation that I would make (please note Directors and Choreographers....) and this comes from my own (very limited) experience of Clean Dancing myself and doing a bit of Latin and Rumba - I would have liked "Hungry Eyes" to have been little bit slower so that the moves could linger and be that little more sensual.

Anyway, that's just my one thought on an otherwise perfectly entertaining evening.  Everybody there loved everything about the show and I would certainly recommend going and seeing it.

The show is touring the country until March 2014 and you can find all the tour dates here: http://www.aneveningofdirtydancing.com/

Please note this production is not affiliated with Dirty Dancing: The Classic Story on Stage in the West End or on tour in the UK or worldwide.
