'The Three Queens' visit to the River Mersey over the end of May Bank Holiday weekend

The Wirral Peninsula, nestling between the Rivers Dee and Mersey in the north west of England, is surely one of the UK’s best kept secrets.   Over the end of May Bank Holiday weekend 2015 the River Mersey will be host to the Cunard ships known as the ‘Three Queens’ – Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria.  The ships will meet up on the River Mersey near New Brighton on Monday around 10.45 am on Monday 25th May and sail together along the river to commemorate the 175th anniversary of the shipping line Cunard.  Cunard’s headquarters were originally in Liverpool.

If you are planning to visit The Wirral or indeed Liverpool to see this spectacular event, please check your travel arrangements carefully as over a million people are expected.   Special arrangements are in place which you can see on www.merseytravel.gov.uk   You can also call the Traveline on 0151 236 7676 or 0871 200 22 33 and follow @Merseytravel on Twitter.

For Merseyrail travel arrangements see www.merseyrail.org/three-queens- six trains every hour will run between 7 am and 7 pm on the New Brighton Line on Monday, 25th May.

New Brighton has been redeveloped recently and now has a beautiful Promenade with a cinema, some wonderful coffee shops and restaurants and a superb ice cream parlour called Caffe Cream.  Further along the promenade towards Seacombe you will find the pirate ship ‘The Black Pearl’ which is made out of driftwood.

Liverpool has a full programme of events planned for the summer beginning with the International Mersey River Festival.  For the latest programme of events follow @MCLpool on Twitter and One Magnificent City on Facebook or see www.onemagnificentcity.co.uk
