Ice Hockey Legend To Make Flying Visit To Blackpool

1980s Canadian ice hockey legend Bruce Sims will be returning to Blackpool over the Easter break to make a guest appearance for the Blackpool Seagulls ice hockey team.

Bruce with his twin brother Brian were a huge success when they played for the Seagulls from 1981 to 1983 helping the Blackpool team to the English League North title in 1982 and runners up position in British League Division 1 Section C in 1982/83.

They then moved to Southampton where they led the Vikings to the Heineken League Division 1 title the following season.

58 year old Bruce will be guest of honour at the Seagulls two home games - on Saturday 30th March v Birmingham Rockets and Saturday 6th April v Coventry Cobras - and it is hoped that he will make a playing appearance.

A special "Sims" edition of the match programme is being produced to cover both matches and all proceeds taken at the two matches will go to Brian House Childrens Hospice in Blackpool.

The games will be played at the SubZero Ice Arena on Cleveleys promenade.

The Birmingham game on 30th March faces off at the slightly later time of 6pm, with doors opening at 5pm  while the Coventry game is the usual 5pm face off - with doors open for spectators at 4.30pm.
