Ricoh British Womens Open Golf - Round 3 Report

Radio Report:
Aussie Katherine Hull (pictured left) - who started the day back down the field in joint 8th place on 2 under - hit an incredible round of 66 (6 under par) to finish the day 8 under par and 4 shots behind runaway leader Yani Tseng at the end of round three.

Taiwanese Tseng saw her overnight lead of 6 whittled down to 2 at one stage but moved back to 4 ahead thanks to an eagle on the 18th hole.

Korea's In-Kyung Kim finished in 3rd place on 6 under par. The weather remained fine for most of the day, allowing the top players to flourish - Christina Kim picked up 2 shots to finish on 4 under, level with 4 other players while Brittany Lincicome picked up one shot to finish up on 5 under par.

When asked about the secret of her good performance today Tseng admitted that she had undertaken some personal coaching during the week and, as a result, resorted to singing a Taiwanese song in her head to help keep relaxed and focus during the game.

Tseng has only dropped one shot in 3 rounds of the Birkdale course in this competition so it is hard to see her being overtaken as things stand - but the weather could still play an important part in tomorrow's exciting climax to the 2010 Ricoh Women's British Open.

Ricoh Womens British Open - 3rd Round Preview

After two days of wind and rain, round 1 leader Yani Tseng extended her lead in the Ricoh Women's British Open from 4 under par to 8 under par by the end of round 2.

The Taiwanese player - who is ranked number 5 in the world - carries a 4 shot advantage into today's 3rd round.

The previous days' bad weather certainly affected the game of many top players, including last year's champion Catriona Matthew who failed to make the cut with a disappointing 12 over par. American Paula Creamer made the cut but was disappointed with her +4 score that left her 12 shots off the lead on +4 and Japanese superstar Ai Miyazato also struggled with conditions to finish the 2nd day on +2.

Britanny Lincicome - who, herself missed the cut last year - finihsed the second day in joint 2nd place with -4, level with fellow American Cristie Kerr and Korean Amy Yang.

Young French talent Anne-Lise Caudal (pictured above talking to Preston FM's Lucy Breeze on Thursday)saw her lofty 1st place from day one slip to joint 8th at the end of the second round finishing with -2.

The British flag is being flown in the 3rd round today by Laura Davies, who currently tops the European money table, emerging talents Melissa Reid and Henrietta Zuel, while Birkdale's own Florentyna Parker can be a source of home-course pride as she tees off with Paula Creamer today.

Becky Brewerton from Wales and Janice Moody from Scotland complete the challenge by the Home Nations.

Photos and interview clips will be posted here as the day progresses.

World Cup Winner Signs For Fylde!

World Cup rugby union winner and Great Britain rugby league legend Jason Robinson OBE, who has thrilled crowds in both codes all over the world, is once more to demonstrate his extraordinary abilities - this time for Fylde RFC in the 2010/11 season. He is coming out of retirement to play and help the club with community activities off the field.

Following retirement in the 2007/8 season, he's keen to return to playing the game that he loves so much and feels that at 35 he can still make an important contribution, on and off the pitch. He is looking forward to working once more with Head Coach Mark Nelson, Sale's backs coach in their Premiership winning 2005/6 season, and former England Head Coach Brian Ashton.

Mark Nelson said: "I am absolutely delighted that we have signed Jason for next season. Given his record in both codes of the game, it's not an exaggeration to say that he is the best ever rugby player. It's a fantastic opportunity for our players to play alongside such an experienced and mercurial talent and I expect a number of players will express an interest in joining the Club to have a similar opportunity."

Brian Ashton said: “It is a remarkably fortunate coincidence for me to be returning to help out my old club Fylde as Jason arrives to play. I have had the privilege of working with Jason and know that his stature, ability and qualities as a player and a person will benefit all who come into contact with him, both on and off the field.

Fylde Sign Lancashire Star!

Former Loughborough Students, Sale Jets, Rochdale & the current Lancashire fly-half Steve Collins has joined Fylde Rugby Union Club. Collins had an outstanding County Championship season for winners Lancashire and scored 22 points at his new club when Lancashire put Cheshire to the sword at the Woodlands in May. The diminutive goal-kicking playmaker is a clever runner, distributor and has a complete all round game.
Head Coach Mark Nelson said: “This is a really big signing for Fylde. Steve was superb playing for Lancashire last season. He's been very loyal to Rochdale who should be warmly congratulated for helping him develop into the fine player he has become. He came through the club's M-J ranks as well as representing Lancashire at junior levels.
“Steve feels that it's time for him to step up into national league rugby. He has the natural ability to blossom at Fylde and will benefit from working with our coaches including Brian Ashton. His running of the game is of a high standard. Despite the last minute injury at Twickenham which will delay his league début for the Club, he'll be a real force in N2N. I'm particularly looking forward to him resuming his county half-back partnership with Craig Aikman and linking up with other Lancashire backs Mike Waywell, Oli Brennand and, potentially, Nick Royle.
