In our featured game of the day, Blackpool Wren Rovers reserves beat Fulwood Amateurs reserves 7-1 (in photo).  Wren Rovers first team match away was postponed.

In the NWCFL Premier Division, AFC  Blackpool lost 0-2 to AFC Liverpool while Squires Gate lost 1-2 at home to Maine Road FC.

New look Silantro Wood Street in St. Annes - Russian evening Friday 25th April 2014

Silantro - that lovely cafe at 2a Wood Street in St Annes on the Sea in Lancashire - is under new management.  

They are organising a Russian themed evening on Friday, 25th April 2014 with a 5-course meal, Vodka and a real Balalaika Band playing Russian folk musik in traditional dress.  Booking is essential as places are limited, though a second evening may be arranged if demand is sufficient...

Miss Blackpool Competition 2014 - Dates Confirmed!

Heats for the 2014 Miss Blackpool competition will be held at G Casino on Blackpool Promenade on the following dates:

Thursday 19th June
Thursday 26th June
Thursday 3rd July
Thursday 10th July
Thursday 17th July
Thursday 24th July
Thursday 31st July

The Final will take place on the Friday 15th August at the Blackpool Hilton Hotel which will include a 3-course meal and coffee (black tie event). Tickets will be bookable through Angels Elite Models & Promotions Agency

Girls aged 18 to 30 are welcome to enter whether they have been married or not and whether or not they have children. There is no cost to enter and you can just come along and join in on the night. The heats are contested wearing evening/club wear (no swimsuit necessary...!).

Most importantly: you DO NOT have to live in or come from Blackpool to be eligible to enter so the competition is especially attractive to visitors and holiday makers as a fun way to spend an evening out. Friends and family are encouraged to come along and support the heats and the final.

The 1st and 2nd placed in each heat qualify for the Grand Final on 15th August. There will also be a photographic completion held in conjunction with Radio Wave - details to follow later!

Local Football Round Up - 15th March

In our featured match of the day, Squires Gate narrowly lost out in a close-fought NWCFL Premier Division encounter with Stockport Sports by 2 goals to 1 (in photo).

AFC Blackpool lost 4-0 in the quarter final of the NWCFL Challenge Cup away at Maine Road.

Squires Gate are at home to Maine Road next Saturday 22nd March in the league, while AFC Blackpool entertain AFC Liverpool.

NIHL Radio: New Ice Hockey Radio Service Launched

Today sees the launch of a brand new internet broadcasting service aimed specifically at NIHL ice hockey clubs and their supporters. Basically, NIHL Radio offers teams the facility to provide live commentary from their matches without incurring the various costs and technology hurdles normally involved in setting up an audio stream.

Already signed up for next season are Blackburn Hawks, Whitley Warriors and Billingham Stars from the NIHL North Moralee Conference and Deeside Dragons and Widnes Wild from the Laidler Conference.

In the North West Counties League, AFC Blackpool last 6-1 away at Ashton Athletic and Squires Gate lost 0-4 at home to Runcorn Linnets.
