Review: Afternoon Tea at the Chadwick Hotel, St. Annes-0n-the-Sea, Lancashire
This delightful, family-run hotel overlooking the sea on South Promenade, St. Annes, Lancashire is surely one of the Fylde Coast's jewels.
Afternoon Tea is a particular favourite of mine and the afternoon tea at the Chadwick Hotel is particularly delicious.
A choice of tea or coffee (generous pot and hot water that so many people forget these days) with a selection of savoury sandwiches (you get to choose) and a scone with jam and cream costs £9 per person.
The larger version - tea or coffee, sandwiches, scone, jam and cream, plus cream cakes is £11.50 per person. Very generous portions and absolutely delicious.
Booking is essential for large groups.

Ice Hockey: Flyers Battered By Barons
Saturday 9th February 2013
National Ice Hockey League Division 2 North
Fylde Flyers 4 - Solihull Barons 15
Period Scores: 1-5, 2-5, 1-5
Shots On Goal: Flyers 48 - Solihull 54
Penalties In Minutes: Flyers 40 - Solihull 32
Flyers Scorers: Janis Grinbergs 2+1, Andy Clark 1+0, Tom Murphy 1+0, Marriott, Charlton, Jones, Gillingham all 0+1
Report:
Having battled on with a reduced bench last Sunday away at Solihull and been just 5 minutes away from coming home with a point, Fylde Flyers would have been hoping for something positive in the return fixture at home on Saturday evening.
Unfortunately all they got for their efforts - playing in front of a sizeable SubZero crowd - was broken bones, gashes and a ferrying service to the A&E department as Solihull employed highly aggressive tactics in this 4-15 reverse.
Flyers actually opened the scoring with a short handed goal after 9 minutes but by the time they scoted their second in the 35th minute, the visitors had scored 10 and were romping away with the game. 6 Flyers had to withdraw from the game with injuries in scenes reminiscent of matches with the Solihull teams of old with Chuck Taylor et al when the Barons were everybody's favourite team to hate - and it is doubtful whether all will be patched up in time for tonight's road trip to Hull.
Fylde Flyers next home game is on Saturday 16th February when they entertain Sheffield Senators at the SubZero Ice Arena in Cleveleys - 5pm face off.

NWCFL: Gate Beat The Weather
Squires Gate FC overcame the bad weather that led to neighbours AFC Blackpool's game being postponed due to a waterlogged pitch but were unable to hold out against second placed Padiham.
The visitors made most of the running but Gate defended resolutely and it looked as if they might hold on for a well deserved point. The breakthrough came after 67 minutes and a second goal on 90 minutes seemed almost unfair on a Gate side who battled so well throughout.
Squires Gate are at home again next Saturday 16th February in a NWCFL Premier Division match against bottom team Stone Dominos.
AFC Blackpool travel away to Padiham next Saturday in the 3rd round of the NWCFL Challenge Cup.

Fylde Flyers picked up their first shut out of the season with a 7-0 home victory over Lancashire rivals Blackburn Eagles.
It was the first game in Fylde colours for former Trafford Metros player Jason Pirie who signed on deadline day and also former Blackpool Seagull Ryan Johnston.
Pirie had a memorable debut with a goal in the first period and a statisticians' nightmare 2 minute penalty for crosschecking plus 2+2 for roughing plus 2+2+game for leaving the penalty box all in the last minute of the second period.
By then, Flyers were 6-0 up and the result looked like a foregone conclusion.
A goal-light but action packed 3rd period saw a further 91 penalty minutes handed out - 63 for Flyers and 28 for Blackburn.
Fylde Flyers wll expect a tougher game tonight away to Solihull Barons.
The Flyers are next in home action next Saturday 9th February when they welcome the Barons back to the Subzero Ice Arena in Cleveleys for a 5pm face off.

Golf Legend Annika Sorenstam to serve as Honorary Host of Kraft Nabisco Championship Celebrity Pro-Am 1st - 7th April 2013
Three-time Champion eager to lend her support to golf’s first major;
Tickets for the 2013 Kraft Nabisco Championship now on sale to the public
One of the most iconic players in the history of golf, Annika Sorenstam, will be returning to Mission Hills Country Club in April, this time to serve as honorary host for the celebrity pro-am for the Kraft Nabisco Championship, a tournament she won three times.
The ten-time major Champion will not only play in the tournament’s pro-am, but also provide a legendary presence throughout the week as the top players in the world converge on Rancho Mirage hoping to add their name to the list of prestigious winners of golf’s first major of the year.
Tickets for the 2013 Kraft Nabisco Championship, being held April 1-7, are now on sale and are priced from $15 for the celebrity pro-am hosted by Annika, to $25 for any one-day ticket (valid Thursday to Sunday of Championship) and $225 for a weeklong badge with Clubhouse valet parking . The ultimate all-inclusive experience, the 18th Green Suites built on the water, is also on sale. Tickets can be purchased online by visiting www.KNCgolf.com or by calling 760-324-4546.
“The Kraft Nabisco Championship has such a rich history and I’m honored to be able to play a role in its equally exciting future,” said the Hall of Famer. “While I have remained very busy with my young family and business interests since I stopped playing competitively, I will always miss the thrill of tournament week at a major championship. I’m looking forward to being back on the golf course at Mission Hills, spending time with the other players, fans, sponsors and some of my celebrity friends doing whatever I can to contribute to another exciting championship.”
Some of the celebrities scheduled to appear this year are Ray Romano, Craig T. Nelson, Kevin Nealon, Dennis Haysbert, Thomas Gibson, Joe Mantegna, Cheech Marin, Alice Cooper, Joe Theismann, Scott Wolf and Ron Perlman.
In addition to her role as honorary host of the Kraft Nabisco Championship Celebrity pro-am, Annika will do some television work with the Golf Channel and play an important role in the fundraising efforts benefiting F.I.N.D. Food Bank, the tournament’s designated charity.
“As a three-time champion of this tournament, Annika will go down as one of the greatest champions in Kraft Nabisco Championship history and we are thrilled to have her back,” said Gabe Codding, Tournament Director of the Kraft Nabisco Championship. “I know that Annika’s presence during tournament week will serve as an inspiration to the players in the field and provide a constant reminder of this major championship’s great traditions.”
